PRE-TRAINING COURSES
OVERSEAS TEACHERS’ COURSES

 

PRE-TRAINING COURSES (native / *non native speakers)

These provide a foundation for those who are planning to undertake a training course leading to a qualification in EFL. The course content will vary depending on the students’ knowledge and experience but generally will focus on
the basic principles of EFL methodology.

e.g :

    • ways of highlighting and practising language
    • how to plan lessons
    • different language skills
    • how to manage a class


Language awareness
e.g:

    • grammar terminology
    • focus on tenses


Duration: Courses are tailor made to suit the students’ needs and the length of the course will be determined by the students’ availability.


FEES: These will be determined on completion of a needs analysis. Please contact us for further details.

Accommodation : Trainees who require assistance in finding suitable accommodation e.g host family, self-catering ,hotel should inform the college as early as possible, as demand is high, especially in the summer.

* Non native speakers wishing to enrol for pre-training need to demonstrate sufficient competence in English.


OVERSEAS TEACHERS’ COURSES

GATE provides 2 courses GTD I , GTD II, designed for the development of teachers of English who are not native speakers. The programme is tailored to the specific needs of the individual or group and focuses on practical ideas for lessons that can be of immediate use, as well as looking at areas of methodology.
A needs analysis will be carried out prior to the course to ensure that you gain maximum benefit from the sessions, outlined below

EFL teaching methodology

    1. Styles of learner
    2. Approaches and varieties of teaching methods
    3. Receptive skills (Reading & Listening skills)
    4. Productive skills ( Writing & Speaking skills)
    5. Vocabulary
    6. Grammar Activities
    7. Phonology
    8. Error correction
    9. Using visual aids in the classroom
    10. Teaching younger learners
    11. Teaching exam classes

     

    GTD I ( TEACHING DEVELOPMENT)

    GTD I is an intensive teaching development course designed mainly to cover areas relating to EFL teaching methodology

    Who could benefit : This course is for teachers who have had training in their home country and have some experience in teaching but would like to develop their skills in a native English speaking environment . There will usually be an opportunity to visit a school and observe a lesson.

    2) GTD II (TEACHING DEVELOPMENT / LANGUAGE SKILLS)

    GTD II is a teaching development course designed to cover areas relating to EFL teaching methodology but this course also contains extra English language practice.

    Who could benefit: This course is for teachers who have had training in their home country and have some experience in teaching but would like to develop their skills in a native English speaking environment . They would also like to have some English lessons to increase their confidence in using English. There will usually be an opportunity to visit a school and observe a lesson.
